I have a friend who is blind, over hanging branches and low tree's are not much fun when you cannot see them.

Two wrongs do not make a right springs to mind, blimey is it worth complaining about some thing that can be done in a few minutes.

You made your point about the bus stop and somebody is doing the same to you, about your hedge.

Chill it is not worth getting worked up about.

Often hedges and shrubs block sight lines from side turnings. I know of a few where the inconsiderate owner has let his hedge grow out and you take your life in your hands each time you pull out.

(Obviously I dont know the reason in your case but sometimes a branch can be life threatening).

I think I would have a case to sue you if your hedge blocked a sight line and some twat knocked me off my bike as a result.

My apologies for seemingly misleading some readers. My initial post was meant to be one of surprise that the council is sending out staff identifying this type of thing, I have now confirmed that it was a complaint for an unknown neighbour and I dutifully cut it back in about 30 seconds, which I would certainly have done if he'd asked me. However, in no way did it obstruct a corner, neither could its branches have obstructed pedestrians blind or sighted, unlike the cars on the pavements.

I wrote to the trunk road authority to complain that 50% of the width of a joint user path was blocked by overhanging vegetation.
They wrote back to say the overhang was 0.1 metres.

Perhaps your blocking the space on the pavement in front of your house that the neighbour wants to park on!

What 6 ft off the ground

I think reducing sight lines is one of the concepts of home zones - as the further people can see clearly the faster they go.

However the biggest blocker of sight lines at junctions are parked cars, especially the higher cars, and vans (the ones that don't read what the highway code says about not parking:
opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space

It is very unlikely that the person who issued the notice about the overhanging hedge was even aware of your complaint about the bus stop. Bus stops are usually handled by a transport division whenas overhanging trees, bushes etc. are classified and dealt with by highway maintenance usually.

I'd just trim it myself. In this day and age, if you didn't it'd be sods law that someone would walk into it the next day and partially blind themselves. They'd then contact the council who'd point out that a notice had been served and the owner was well aware of the situation . . . I can hear the sound of a compensation claim . . .
