My crank extractor tool has ruined the threads on my Octalink crank (drive side). I have a new crank and bottom bracket so I could not care less about damaging the cranks on the bike. I have tried riding it for several miles with the retaining bolt removed but it is still stuck solid. I was wondering is there any way to remove this crank arm? Or should I use an angle grinder (last resort). Thanks for any help.

The new crank is Hollowtech 2, despite all the negative things I have read about BB life I think it will be a god send as the BB's are £10 a shot and they do not have the same removal method as the Octalink which seems pretty easy to damge.

Did you use the correct crank extractor?
In this instance I would cut it off with the grinder using an inox blade which is @1mm thick, often drops of with the heat generated.

Put the bolt part-way back in, stick a metal rod through the axle and twat it the rod with a hammer

Yes it was a correct one and had the octalink adapter. Was off eBay so probably shite, have used it a few times before with no problems. Thanks for all the suggestions, much appreciated.
