lost somewhere
I sorry to hear of your loss.
My sister made all the arrangements for her own funeral and chose a tiny church over one of the ancient city gates into Winchester close to her home. It has very steep stairs, difficult to negotiate with a coffin. Her solution was to opt for the first morning gig at the crematorium and have her funeral service ( with her ashes in a blue glazed pot that she had commissioned ) at 2:30 pm in the afternoon. A rather raucous wake started at 4:30 pm and lasted late into the night. So yes, it is quite possible to have the ashes within a few hours of the visit to the crematorium.

BTW, a modern gas-powered cremator "deals" with about 50-60 kg per hour, I believe.

In York you can have a funeral service at a church then they take the body to the crematorium and you can choose to follow for a separate service or just call it a day at the Church gate. Whichever you do, the actual cremation doesn't take place straight after the deceased arrives at the crematorium it happens at whatever time suits the crematorium.

A good funeral parlour should advise on this I would expect.

ps I see that addict freak has explained this above better than I did!
