Well I asked my Canadian wife. In her opinion, most Canadian regard themselves as simply Canadian and do like to use the term North American as this bring connotations of being part of the USA. Canadians are fiercely patriotic and wish to distance themselves from the US. If I am honest, she got quite angry and forceful with me and was about to take over the computer to vent her spleen.

More effective at 4mph than say, 25 to 30mph I would expect.

On 2nd thoughts better not risk another helmet debate:ohmy:

4mph is walking pace, lets start a campaign to make all pedestrians wear helmets, after all they are walking dangerously fast and they are at higher risk of head injury than cyclist

The video seems to show them moving at more than 4mph for at least some of the ride. But it's a very tame ride compared with most cycle outings - and not exactly a throng in numbers (has anyone counted a 'good' London CM?).

Regarding 'Americans', I was told once, by a Canadian, that 'North American' was acceptable to him, provided you never left out the 'North'. But, really, only when referring to the physical geography of the area, not the people.

On the other hand a Native American is usually quite happy to be described as such, whether he or she hails from the USA, Canada, Mexico, or any other country across the Atlantic. After all they were all Native American homelands before the Europeans showed up...

At 4mph they are more likely to receive benfit from helmet wearing.

I was just about to write and almost identical reply, are you married to my wife?

In common usage, America is considered to be the USA. The other countries in continental America regard themselves as separate from the USA and prefer not to be known as americans. Ask any Canadian if they are american and you will get a sharp negative response.

War is God's way of teaching Americans geography.

There are times when the safest thing to do is to send some plank in to the street to stop the traffic. If rides get spread out you have chaos.

Excuse me... I dislike being referred to as a 'plank'.

I shall refrain from attending any more FNRttCs if you're mean to me... ;)
I was referring to myself.........

My bunch are exactly the opposite. They are from Vancouver, and are pretty snarky abt. the USAers. They refuse to allow the Americans from USA to hijack the whole continent for themselves. They get angry and forceful as well.

from the description:

I did enjoy the critical mass I went on, but I reckon this critical manners would actually show cyclists off better, breaking down sterotypes of red light jumping and not paying attention/no signals, etc.

Anyone fancy starting one in London?

You need to sign up for one of the Friday Night Rides to the Coast and experience exactly what you've just described above.

The London leg always looks very similiar to that vid, albeit at night and a lot more riders.

Have a word with our head plank ride leader, Dellzeqq, and I'm sure he'll let you attend.

Or look in the CC Rides section for more details
