Hi,
planning on restarting the commuting in a week or so. I am looking to get insurance which is the best way to go CTC or British Cycling? (I have plenty of lights so not worried about the BC offer at the mo)

My experience with CTC legal support following a SMIDSY was excellent - handsome payout 9 months after accident. I know some folks who went differnt routes and are still waiting 2 years and more post accident.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I joined the BC this year on offer at £12 for the legal cover+ insurance that was the same as the CTC , they probably even use the same solicitors .

If i was going to pick one based purely on what they do i would go for the CTC as they do seem to be more pro-active with campaigning and you get the magazine.

Insurance for what?

Unless you particularly want to join the CTC or British Cycling check whether you can be (or maybe already are for third party) covered on your home insurance (assuming you have home insurance).

If you're worried about accidents there are a number of reputable solicitors (search CC for recommendations) who will fight your corner without you having to be a member of something or other.

That's more to do with the quality of the solicitor you got rather than the CTC. My accident claim is being handled by the same firm, the No Win No Fee contract is standard, a non member of the CTC would have the same contract, there is no member benefit and RJW are not the only experts in the field.

If the only reason to join a club is third party insurance, it seems a dear way of doing it. I had an add on with union membership that offered third party insurance for anything, plus free legal advice, cost was considerably less than CTC membership.

Not sure where you are but if you are in London then you might want to consider LCC (London Cycling Campaign)

I'm in Leicester..
