Congratulations on your decision however ill disagree with the sales assistants analysis of the cubes frame and the fact that the cube had had excellent reviews in the magazines

Hi Steve, to be honest from what I read about the Cube I disagree as well but didn't say anything at the time as I did go in there and said my knowledge was minimal. I've read a few articles and the cubes in general get great reviews about them.

i can only add that iv got a cube peloton(see avatar)and its a very good bike, fits me well ,gearchanges are oh so smooth (105 works brilliantly) its very light and a great spec ,i think it looks really good and other people have said the same ,all in all its a great bike ,i was the same as you and nearly bought a trek 1,2 (i think it was -_same price anyway ,however the fit and finish of the cube sealed it for me ,i keep banging on about spec but mavic aksium wheels and complete 105 throughout for a grand ,,,great buy

Hi Jim.

I might be wrong but I believe we might be talking about different Cube Pelotons.

The one I looked at didn't have 105 or mavic wheels, I believe that was the more expensive model which cost £999.

The trek cost £700 so in the same region as the giant and cube which I posted.

I must admit one thing I REALLY like about the cube is the hidden cabling, makes the bike look a lot neater. I do like the design as well of it, very similar to the giant with a bit more colour.

I've actually come home and carried on looking at the two,its a hard decision.

One more question which might change things a bit and I know its a case of how long is a piece of string.

Bike aside, what would be the cost for decent accessories. Reason I went for a bike in the £700 range was to use the rest on things from chains, lights, pedals and shoes.

Having read up more on the T's & C's of the c2w scheme I think all I can buy is a bike, chain, repair kit and lights. Anything else is considered an extra so is it worth putting the full £1000(or near all)towards the bike and buying everything else myself?

Picking a bike isn't as easy as it was when I picked my first as a kid,lol

Agree with you jim55 as most bikes with mavic Aksum and full 105 are priced between £1000-£1500 also the cube frame is slightly more relaxed for an oldie like me ;)

I think to be honest I dont think there's that much different in the bikes they all have to be competitive with each other for me I looked at the ribble sporting azzurro ,shocking wheels £65 admin fee and poor after sales but stunning to look at lol
2nd giant defy 1 won last years best bike for £1000 so can't be that bad
But the wheel set gears and the look of the cube won it for me
If we were all the sane we would all have a Ferrari 458 on our drives ;)

Congratulations on the defy - you won't regret the decision. Mine is also white. Just keep a pack of baby wipes near the bike and give her a wipe down as required. She will shine :-)

I also don't agree with the sales guy, i have plenty of friends with cubes and they have responded well to upgrades once original components had worn out

I've bought a forza (4za) saddle a lot more comfy that the selle italia that was on the cube ;)
did a 48km ride in 2hrs 20 not earth shattering but just getting used to a road bike

Ha ha I might have to keep that saddle as a just in case, but I'll give the included one a go for a bit and see how it goes but it looked painful! Nice ride mate - good miles, looks like you've got some good hills near there as well!

Around here its not so hilly but it aint flat, so everytime you climb, you descend and then immediately climb again, it is relentless and kills your legs when you're just starting out again like I am, but all good! would be nice to have some big climbs though.

To the OP, we are talking about the Cube Peloton, the £999 bike not the former with the poorer gear set, all of the reviews I've read have sang the praises of the Peloton, therefore the shop assistant is wrong although sounds like he's talking about the cheaper alternative to the Peloton but I was sure most of the cubes got good reviews, I mean they are German for one thing, so they should have the usual German build quality and all that (I hope lol).

You won't go wrong with either the Cube or Giant.

I believe you can buy safety gear & security in your C2W budget, so lights, helmet, lock, pump, possibly pedals, things like that.

If you were to shop around you could get good kit shoes, jackets, bib shorts & jersey etc at a good price.

I tend to get last years colours or models at much less than RRP & use CRC, Merlincycles, Wiggle, Ribble, Probikekit.com & Evans for gear.

A good lid is priority as is a rain jacket, then pedals, shoes, bibs etc.

Some stuff available on classified section of this forum (I will be putting some unused stuff on here soon/eventually).

I would buy the best bike I could manage to afford & try to get kit reduced in sales from different web sites.

Hope this helps.

That's what I'm thinking now, get best possible bike on the c2w and then just buy the rest separate and build things up over time.

Someone told me to aim for a latest model in the off chance I decide to sell everything next year and then I can get best possible price. I always used to love cycling though so I cant see me wanting to do that.

I still have a week to get the LoC from my company so can see. At least I have a much better idea of things and a bike or two which I like.
