this may be OT, but here goes...

I purchased 4 T-shirts via the web from the USofA as gifts for my kids.

The total value of the Tshirts was $90 (£56)

I got a notice from the PO today that I owe £14.94 in Customs Charges

Can I get relife by arguing that each item is below th £18 threshold? Or will I just have to pay?

Nope. The duty free limits apply only to goods brought personally through Customs controls. Goods imported any other way are subject to the prevailing rate of duty and VAT as appropriate.

Pay up and grin. The country needs your dough!

I've been stung a few times, I got hit on some Tshirts from the USA too.

I recently bought a set of foam loudspeaker grilles from Korea and faced a customs and 'handling' charge of over £30 :0( Some sellers are good though, they label it as a gift and you don't have to pay anything.
