I'd settle for something similar to Belgium and Holland, I was talking to a Dutch cyclist on touring holiday here the other day, I swear the poor guy was in shock having just ridden the first 60 miles of NCR 1.

If the RAND Corporation are involved, no doubt several thousand 'security consultants' will be pedalling their way into Doha on these.

Call me a cynic but I can't help but feel that if this project comes to fruition, it will be a huge white elephant. Gulf arabs have a great love affair with their gas-guzzling cars and I very much doubt they'll take to cycling.

I shouldn't find this comical, but I just can't help it

You just picture someone who's used to purpose built cycle lanes with priority at junctions and uninterrupted by anything, going onto the 'national cycle network' of former railway lines and existing rights of way on which it wasn't too much of an inconvenience to have bikes on them.
