Ah....We have Bike Friday in Mcr - runs the same day as Critical Mass, but in the morning - organised rides from various points into the centre.

Also the two main Uni's and Hospitals on Oxford Road in Manchester do 6/7 routes on monthly rides on first Weds of the month. Both I and Sh4rky are route guides - free breakfast for riders......

A pretty poor take-up for Cycle-Fridays:

Mayor's QT:

*Cycle Friday [1]*

*Question No: 2999 / 2009*

Caroline Pidgeon

On each of the ‘Cycle Friday ‘ events that you launched on 7 August, starting on Friday 14 August and continuing until Friday 2 October, how many people, (excluding the Mayor, TfL staff, press officers, marshals, and journalists) left each of the following start points on each event/day: Brixton, Finsbury Park, Greenwich, Mile End, Ravenscourt Park,Swiss Cottage ? Please publish a table.

*Answer from the Mayor:*

I am pleased to confirm that well over four hundred cyclists registered for the Cycle Friday events that ran towards the end of the Summer of Cycling. These rides were led by trained volunteers from the London Cycling Campaign and were not intended to be nor marketed as mass-participation events.

To be fair to Boris (I never thought I would write that!) more useful data would be if the participants have continued to cycle after taking part rather than just the raw numbers. I imagine it is early for that information to have been collated. Presumably it is being collated?

I also understand that the LCC were not enthusiastic about running them on a Friday because that was a day when many people might not to chose to cycle because they are going out after work, etc.

I'd agree, but I still maintain the take-up was low, given the promotion of the CF events. That said, it is a positive initiative.

I hope follow up research is being conducted too. If so, it would suggest contact details have been taken etc? Any CF participants here?

Fridays generally have lower traffic volume - perhaps that was a factor? I think Mondays would have been a better choice...
