Does anybody know of a succesful operating one of these - you know the thing, a cafe, on site fitter, maybe bike hire and showers and lockers and secure parking.

There used to be one in Liverpool, the hub, that closed years ago I believe. Set up in part by a lad out of Brookside

Helpful answers appreciated - thank you

Simon O'Brien. Lovely geezer, I used to drink with him when we lived in Hollywood and was once an extra in the TV sitcom he starred in.

Hi,

A "cycle hub" has recently been opened in York. Haven't been yet so can't comment on the facilities, but more details are available at:

Once I get chance to pop in will pass on comments.

As much as it's a brilliant idea, but you really have to work close to it for it to be useful. I work on Bootham so going a half-mile further and having to negotiate that stupid turning into at Rougier Street just to lock my bike up indoors and have a shower isn't worth it

There's a bike park with some lockers (premuably subscriber-hired?) and a cycle workshop in the basement of the Park Street car park in Cambridge, but there's no showers.

Or if there were, me and Roubaix Murry failed to spot them when we went there last November.

In answer to your question there is one attached to the side of Mud-Dock (known as Dog-Muck by.. er.. me) in Bristol.

Thanks for pointing this out. I never even knew it was there.
Would have been useful a few months back when I had a meeting at Temple Meads.
The showers feel a bit pricey for me, but then I guess they need maintenance and you do get a towel and soap! http://www.mud-dock.co.uk/bikeshed/32_costs.html

The parking isn't the prime consideration really - York's got lots of that. It's all the other bits and pieces that are the core business, and having a centre (a hub, if you like!) to focus cycling in York.

I haven't been in yet, not really had time, but I bumped into Bernie this morning as I was working in North St, and she said they've been really busy, but not with parking.

Turning in from Rougier Street isn't a problem - it's getting out again (legally) that is infuriating!
