Had a quick search on google, but thought I would ask here too. Can anyone recomend a "cycle maintenance training session/course" in the Brixton area? The only one i found was in 2007! lol. I'm pretty crap at looking after the old mountain bike, think I oiled it once. As the new bike has arrived and I can pick it up when back from holiday, I better learn how to look after a bike again. Basic repairs etc.

as recomended on here! ps. Cycling Shoes, how important to choose the right ones, and which are the right ones to choose! lol

Look at cycletraining.co.uk . They do training courses south of the river. Some are subsidised/free if you live/work in the capital.

I went on the intermediate cycle training course last year and it was great. Previously I could change tyres, brakes and just about index my gears (things which are covered in the basic course), after the intermediate course I was confident enough to strip out and regrease/replace bearings, replace cassettes/chainrings/cranks and also picked up a few handy hints about general maintenance. For £60 I'd definitely recommend it if you have a little bit of technical know how already. If you're not overly confident messing about with your bike it would probably be a good idea to do the basic course first.

Yes def doing the basic course. spoke to them yesterday, but hard to find a place at the moment. As live in lambeth and work in city, you get it cheaper too, much cheaper. although TFL ar cutting the funding from april. grrrr. off to pick up new bike!
