Cycle Super-highway

A real cycle superhighway I found this weekend in Holland. Despite the road markings, this road is only for two-wheelers (and perhaps emergency vehicles):

It puts anything in the UK to shame!

If only things like that existed in the UK, instead we get shared paths with pedestrians or painted road in the gutter.

That crash barrier's a bit over the top for your average Dutch commuter run though!

I don't know - those Dutch bikes are pretty heavy!

To be fair, I had a tailwind.

And a recumbent I see (now I have a good internet connection) which might help. LF1's a beautifull trip. I use it to & from Haarlem where I prefer to stay to Amsterdam.

There are some fantastic cycle ways in the Netherlands. My most memorable (recent) one is a fantastic stretch between Arnhem and Oosterbek - the cycle path is easily wide enough for cars etc. beautiful smooooth tarmac, arrow straight for several miles and runs in the woods 20m to the side of the main road = Nirvana!

Er, I have an embarrassing story about myself. I need not go into the details right now, but just to warn you that sometimes traffic can get onto those cycle lanes.
