Cycle-to-Work - again

My employers - a major multinational - have put a lid on this, stating they "will not be participating in the scheme". End of story, I suppose . I'm not surprised, to tell the truth, and it doesn't really affect me seeing as I have no plans to upgrade my wheels, but does put out a negative message. I know there are issues with actual 'ownership' of the bikes, insurance issues, and liability both towards the employee himself and to third party claims in the event of an accident. Maybe other issues too? Maybe the cost of administration outweighs the benefits conferred to those who do take it up.

Personally I don't see the point in pursuing it further. Our workforce is very diminished at my local place of work, and few if any would have taken it up. Any other views?

My multi-national PLC has just taken up the scheme !

Having said which we are based in the City of London, so cars are not an option.
We have about 10% cyclists (and secure storage, showers, fluffy white towells etc)

I'll guess they will come around to the idea again eventually, but it maybe a decade or so.

... by which time I'll be retired. Ah well, maybe the younger ones will get something - eventually. At least they've agreed to put in showers: they've actually got the quote and placed the order. That's actually of more benefit I think.

12% saving on company NI contributions is a considerable amount to offset admin fees & if it's a company like I work for they don't pass the VAT savings on either, so they make close to 30% saving on bike purchase price
