Just had a thought. The Bromoton that was damaged in my recent collision is a cycle to work scheme bike that I'm still paying for.
Do I need to inform the schem operators? Will it make a difference to my claim?

There may be an insurance element in the contract, that's worth investigating.

Was the damage to the bike enough to alter the final sell on value or what ever they call it? I don't know if they would take that into account at that point. It's ages since I used the scheme.

I'm not sure. The estimate is £220 to repair, forks, front wheel, handlebar, chainring, crank and right pedal all need replacing.

From what I remember, you are responsible for the bike while it is in your possession, so you are expected to bring it back to saleable value and keep it correctly maintained while you own it. In your shoes, as I presume you are intending to fix it so you can continue riding it and then buy it at the end of the scheme I'd just do the repairs and not bother mentioning it to anyone. I don't recall a requirement to inform them, but it will be in your contract which (depending on the scheme) should be available to check on line (we use the official Government sanctioned one, Cyclescheme.co.uk and they keep the contract readable on line.)

As I have intended to keep the bikes I've got through the scheme, I've not worried about modifying them from the off but by the rules they ought to be capable of being returned to the hirer in the condition they were bought (plus expected wear and tear).

The owner of the bike is your employer but you are responsible for making good all damage or theft. Let them know about it as a courtesy but your claim against the 3rd party is unaffected as you are claiming for expenses necessarily incurred by their negligence.

Thats a good point. I'm planning to change the the chain ring to 44t when the repairs are done. Like you though, I've no intention of returning the bike, so can't see it being a problem.
