What on earth does everyone in this forum DO to have so much spare time to waffle about on here? I'm writing up my PhD (nearly done, NEARLY DONE!!!!!!!!) so have plenty of time that's needed to rest my frazzled brain , but gaddamn... I think I want your jobs!

Well, for 5 years, I was doing a PhD (although in the later years 'doing' wasn't the right word, more like 'avoiding', hence the post count). I quit in the end, having lost all motivation. Well done for getting to the writing up stage!

Ditto. I work from home, so no boss to oversee.

And I need the internet on to look up stuff related to work.

I probably need a special internet filter that bans sites like CycleChat during working hours!

I pretty much have the computer on all day, and sit in front of it working, except some days where I'm away from it for 3-6 hours at a stretch. Also, many of my posts are in "the chain" and or short bursts of absolute drivel. Anyway, you're not my boss, why am I telling you this....?

Funnily enough I'm procrastinating right now. I reckon I can manage another 20 minutes and then onwards before the day wears out.

My days - most of them - go something like this:

10am (ish) - get up. Make coffee and toast, turn on computer, see what's been going down on Cycle Chat.
12 noon (ish) walk uptown. Buy daily shopping.
1pm - wash up. Have some lunch in front of CC.
2pm - make sandwiches, maybe put something in the slow cooker.
3pm - more Cycle Chat.
3.30pm - go to work.
3.50pm - arrive at work. Find lorry, put tachograph chart in. Have some coffee.
4.15pm - drive two miles where I pick up my loads from. Discover there isn't enough for a full load. Take laptop to the canteen, check CC again.
6pm - go back to lorry, check tank for load level. Still not enough. Another hour on CC.
7pm - load tanker, take load two miles back to first site, unload.
7.20pm - return. Repeat until 11pm or so.
11pm - go home.

Easiest job I've ever had!

I'm e-mailing this to your manager with the suggestion of replacing the lorry with a hand barrow.

Well, I would like a job and that one sounds good. No office politics, not gossippy, noisy women ;), I am used to starting work at 3pm and finishing at 11pm, so that is OK. What sort of driving licence do I need, I have got a very clean one, will that do?

Failing that, I am sure when you get busy, you need an assistant, I could check on the load levels, and save you walking out to the lorry.

It's a great job. But they're mostly not like this: my last one went something like:

Monday, 2am: stumble out of bed. Have coffee, get in car.
4am: get to work. Find lorry, find trailer, go.
7pm: park lorry. Find food, eat, climb onto bunk behind seats, sleep until;
Tueasday, 4am: dress, back into driver's seat, repeat Monday until:
Friday 9pm. Park lorry, go home, sleep until:
Monday 2am.

etc. I've earned my easy life, I can tell you.

I am shift work in one of the emergency services coordination centres, I get a bit of time on night shifts to post (as you can tell is stupid oclock at the moment) when it is not busy.

As our job is to respond it's a good way to stay alert during the wee hours when all the admin and training is out of thre way ;)
