Cycling computers

I know this topic comes up about once every other month, so here it is again. Which one? apparently Catseye are the best and have the market cornered - according to the helpfull chap in Evans yesterday. All i need is a wireless one which says how fast, distance on ride and total distance ridden, i guess.



Ps saw a courior nearly get squashed this morning, twice - on a crossroad. Like always, (they) he went through an obvious red, not one which had just chaged. Nearly got hit by car coming from the right first, which beeped and he swerved on his fixie, then the car coming from the left nearly got him too. Would have been a proper jam sandwich.

I have a wireless cateye strada and it does all you want. I managed to get it for about 30 quid. Highly recommended.

yes, just had a look on their site, seems to be some very good priced ones which do all I want. Although I've seen that hte wired ones do temp' too, where as the wireless dont ( Aslo read a review which said their front pulsating light interfered with the computer. You had any issues like that? thanks

I also have cateye computers and have no complaints about them but mine are all wired ones, can't see much saving in going for the cordless ones as the weight saved is really minimal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i guess i just dont like wires everywhere all over the bike, makes it look a bit tacky on my bike. On the odler bike it would have been fine. thanks

Aslo read a review which said their front pulsating light interfered with the computer. You had any issues like that? thanks

Thanks very much for clearing that up, it never occoured to me that it would be my light causing this. I swtiched to strada cadance wired because i was sick of interferance messing up my total trip distances. I havent had any problems with the new computer yet

oh right, well i read that on amazon from someone who bought a wireless one. He said it was reading the pulses given out by the light as his speed! lol, so it was saying he was doing 60mph or something lol.

Mine's a Polar but then I'm sad and appreciate all the data you can download and store. Temperature, altitude, gradient, distance, heart rate, speed, cadence etc. It has real geek quality to it. Never tried cateye. Wireless has never caused a problem.

I've given up on wireless computers. I had nothing but problems. I now have a wired Cateye Enduro 8.

Mine uses magnets, the new wirlesses are just as accurate from what I am aware.

I'm in the same position, I want a computer but want a reliable wireless one that isn't going to cost the earth. I just can't bring myself to run a nasty wire up my front brake cable.

(should this post be in irrational cycling dislikes in the café?!)

On my cheaper wireless I sometimes get interference when the batteries are needing replaced. When it fails its tells me I'm only going 0-3mph, maybe its not interference after all
