Cycling home tomorrow :)

Got next week off so I need to leave the work van in work. So planning to pop the bike in the back and cycle home its only 10 mile of dual carrageway so shouldnt take long. My longest cycle yet has been 7.
Looking forward to toddling along on my subway. I am loving the bike but do feel a bit envious when I see the road bikes flying along maybe I should just peddle faster

Good luck with your cycle home tonight? Are you all good to go for it?

Dual carriageway for ten mines - generally not fun (unless that traffic is stationary)

Is the a circuitous scenic route you can take?

Ten miles on dual carriageway I dont envy you that. Always something I try to avoid if possible.

Dont worry about those flying roadies, keep ploding along and the speed and distance will come.

Thanks every one it was great I got bit nervey when the big lorries came by feet away and I didnt pluck up the courage to move into the lane but stuck in the 3 feet on the edge.
Learnt I need to practice looking over my shoulder with out wobbling cause crossing over slip ways and left turns was bit fiddly and it was too tempting to assume no one would turn into me.
Only down side was it turns out to be 8 mile not 10 :surrender: took me 25 minutes not sure what mph that is not that it matters.
To skip the dual carrageway would mean go a mile or two extra and some nasty hills but that could be fun any way.
If I had the chance to do it daily not sure about the dual carrageway because doing it 5 times a week and back would increase the odds of a hit I guess.
Biggest fear was taking a tumble and falling infront of a lorry

25 mins to do 8 miles is an average speed of 19.20 MPH, that is fantastic time that would give someone on a rodie a run for their money.

Just checked with the wife and turns out it may have been 35 minutes not 25 which sounds more realistic. Dam it going to have to do it again now to be sure :surrender:

I do 8 miles to and 8 miles from work.........When i first started doing it, i was a very overweight little man. Took me 50 minutes each way......I never gave up.........The car was a nono. I've now lost 2 and a half stone and my average is now 25mins......That is my speed.......I never race, i just go at my pace. The moral of my story is, it will get easier, and you will get faster.........Just don't, and i mean don't try to over do it to start with.......Gentle pace. Never ever try to catch someone thats flown past you as you'll burn yourself out.........How do i know that?? Cos i used to try and do it......LOL.
I now cycle home and every other night i do a 2 mile run just to finish myself off.
The fitness will make you feel like a different person. And all because cycling made me fitter it's also made me obsessed with press-ups........LOL........It's all good mate. Stick with it !! And well done for trying !!

well done. and don't knock your Subway. I have one (admittedly with 5 other bikes) and it is the one that will do everything. I am currently touring on it with panniers, plus it managed a few miles on bridleways, and I have done 60 mile road rides on it too. I have changed and upgraded quite a few bits. I think they look great too,
