Not really commuting for today - I didn't have to go anywhere and the snow meant that my mother decided she was not visiting so I got to go out ot play... about 30km in total mostly off road, disused railway, back lanes & some dodgy bridlepaths. great fun and no studs lost from the Schwalbe Marathon winters which I am really pleased about. - no medals or cups showing on strava though - think it was close to my slowest ride but seriously good fun... this am's pictures can be found here... http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/minus-what.121927/post-2262460

Yes, definitely. I'm going to post some pictures up from today's ride in a minute, great fun! Just stay off the main routes where the snow has compacted into ice and you'll be fine.

Fresh snow is your friend, just don't brake of steer too aggressively or you'll be coming off!

I tried to cycle into town, a mere 2 miles. The total lack of snow clearing caused a couple 'ground interface events'. I feel my bike is going to stay in the shed for a day or two!

Tried to ride a fixed wheel bike in the snow, didn't get far before flippin the wheel over to a freewheel! First time I've got out of the village on a fixed/ss and wow! I really like gears!! Will be persevering with the ss until snow passes, hoping that pushing a hard gear on the hills will do me good ;)

It's great fun, specially when leaving cars or other cyclists standing and just giving it done wellie on the MTB with knobbly tyres on.
Not came off at all during this weeks snow, ice and -4 to -8.
I have Regained the art of rear wheel skid turns to control faster corners which I thought was quite brave for an old geezer of 51. Those were on the snowy sections, not the sheet ice -I'm not totally mad

yep - good fun and worth it - as above, stay on fresh snow if you can without studded tyres and don't be afraid to get off an walk if you hit a stretch of badlly rutted mud that has frozen and is now hidden under snow - those deep ruts can be nasty and I did walk a couple of sections - but one section in particular I can't do even before it snowed, deep mud on a gradient walled in by an earth embankment. otherwise no issues was so ever and I did seen 2 other cyclists - strangely all 3 of us were female...
back roads were not too bad either, on studded tyres and just done the weekly shop (roads and supermarket desserted for some strange reason!) so we can get straight out in the morning and enjoy it a touch more.

Was going to go out on the bike but those knobblers at DX secure had me waiting in all day for a delivery that didn't come.So im going to have to do this all again. If you can't deliver it due to the frigging snow then it may be quite nice telling me.Morons.

I've got a lot of days work coming up so I wont be able to do this again.Well done.

Today was the best day for months, 15 miles home, guided bus way was covered in over an inch of snow, so for 12 miles it was snow, snow ,snow !, studded tyres on my MTB, and a tail wind. Absolutely brilliant. Reminded me of being a kid it was so much fun.

I was disappointed when I reached the end. Praying for more snow ready for Monday.

Took mountain bike today. Took about twice as long getting into work, fair bit of slow moving traffic in the way. Took a couple of hours the long way home to enjoy it.
