Ditto cycling sometimes, but only £10 notes.
My dad bought a boat for 2 packets of fags when we lived in the middle east. The guy was coming back to the UK and was in such a state that he was going to take it out in to the desert and burn it. We did it up and even bought it back with us, although it was soon sold as it did about 1 nautical mile to the gallon.
A few years ago I managed a syndicated boat- ran the chartering, organised repairs etc etc. For me, it was a very useful exercise as I had been keen to buy a yacht. The experience convinced me that unless you are sailing a lot, chartering is so much less painful and cheaper.
