A road near me has speed bumps. The Council has made them into pinch points with a bypass for cyclists. Sounds good? Not really.

There are a few problems:

1) The pinch points encourage on-street parking, making the cycling provision unusable.
2) The cycle bypass is too narrow for the street cleaners so its muddy/dusty

Result: unused/unusable provision.

I always ignore those, even if there's no cars parked in the way. You never know what crap is building up by the edge of the pavement.

Take the lane and pull out, and either go down the middle (if you've got a car right behind you) or to the left of the speed bump.

You would think that when they set out the specifications for cycle-related street furniture, the DoT would do some research to find out what sort of system actually worked. But no.

Or actually ask cyclists what would be good and what is crap. As the majority of ideas they come up with are crap.

I hate this sort of thing. It's not like cycling is allocated a huge amount of money here, and when any money does get spent, it's mostly useless.

I would stay in the cycle lane, crash into the back of the park car, pick myself up continue to the next.....Repeat the process.
