An inventor has created a cycling vest that displays its wearer's speed to other road users:

Now my mind starts jumping... and already I see it being changed to calculate the distance to the car and then come up with appropriate words... everything from - thank you, to come any closer and we could make babies.... well perhaps I better stop my mind there.

Why not one that gives the speed of the vehicle behind, possibly relative to that of the wearer.

If you could get it to flash "PLEASE DON'T KILL ME" occasionally too, that would be cool.

Alternate messages would be good such as

"Thanks for waiting"

or

"Back off you knob" :rolleyes::biggrin:

A bike computer, you mean?

I like the Sigma BC-1606L - cadence, odometer, avg speed, max speed, trip total, trip up/trip down...

there's loads from cheap Halfrauds jobbies at £10 to Cateye wireless models that do everything apart from actually cycle for you. The more you pay the more features you get. But They all have current, Max and Average speed, trip and total distance which is about all you need.

I like the jackets. But they definetly need messages too. Wonder how accurate the speed is?

I've got a really cheap one from Tesco for about £6, might have been £7. It does current speed, max speed, average speed, trip elapsed time, trip distance and total distance. The trips and average speed are from when you last reset the trip; the max speed and total distance are from when you last did a "big" reset. It also shows a "+" or "-" on the display to show if you're above or below your average speed on the trip. Oh, and it shows the time of day as well. Current speed and the "+" or "-" are always shown, and then you can chose which one of the other bits of data you want shown .. including a "scan" mode where it cycles through all of them. It works OK for that sort of basic stuff. It even stands up to the rain pretty well.

However, I'm thinking of asking Father Christmas for either a Cateye V2 (wireless jobby which includes cadence and records lap data and so on which you can review later) or a Garmin Edge 305 GPS enabled jobby which tells you everything up to and including how heavy your last bowel movement was. But they are more 'spensive: just over £70 for the Cateye, and £150+ typically for the Garmin.

There's also Heart Rate Monitors and all sorts, and loads of different manufacturers. And as you can see the price range is HUGE!!
