Three years ago I kept commuting when I had a bad cold and to be honest when actually on the bike it seemed to ease it a bit. However things took a turn for the worse and I ended up in hospital for 11 days with Pneumonia. I don't know if cycling with the cold caused the pneumonia, but for sure since that time I've eased up on the commute if I have a cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

;) Full of cold this week. Went out on Sunday for a couple of hours but it was a struggle. Woke up on Monday and felt rough - realised why Sunday had been so hard. So no cycling this week and have been in the car. Boy have I missed my ride to work.

Should you really be going to work if you have shingles? It is contagious to people who have never had chicken pox (like me for example).

Suggestion - get the vaccination. Chicken pox as an adult really sucks, I had it last year.

Looks like I've also succumbed to what's going around:sad:
My mileage is really low at the moment and I wanted to get a big one in this weekend:angry:
Hopefuly I can get over it by Monday as I can't stand the bus. I've ridden when ill before and I'm pretty sure it slows down the recovery.

I've been forced to drive to work for the past week, due to the practicalities of a severe bout of IBS. I thought i'd settled down a little, went out for a 2 hr spin earlier and will be back to driving again tomorrow .

Maybe it's my body way of telling me to slow down, having built my weekly mileage up from zero to over 150 over the past 8 weeks. How quickly am i likely to loose the fitness that I've now built up ?

Have you considered the stone age diet ?

Sounds severe, but many bouts of IBS is the result of the crap western diet we endure.

I seem to have a slight cold today. Hopefully it'll clear up by this evening. I think I'm quite tired at the moment - I had to go for a lie down yesterday evening for half an hour after tea I was that tired (never usually have to do that). I'm going to cycle to work anyway all this week - don't tend to not cycle unless I have sore throat / bad chest. Got a week off next week to take it easy.
