A TEENAGE cyclist was deliberately knocked off her bike by an erratic driver.

The 17-year-old was riding from Hereford to Sutton St Nicholas via Shelwick at 4.20pm on Saturday when a small black hatchback car approached her at speed from behind on the straight stretch of road prior to Wergins Bridge.

It is alleged that the car slowed down and rammed the cyclist’s rear wheel three times, causing her to lose control and fall into the verge.

The car then sped off in the direction of Sutton St Nicholas without stopping.

It was driven by a youth described as being in his late teens and he was with two male passengers of a similar age.

The car had a sticker on the rear.

Anyone with information can call PC Phil Harvey on 0300 333 3000.

Any idea if the cyclist is OK?

No idea, saw the article by chance on the site as I was looking at another article linked to about another type of ignorant thug (hunt running rampage through an alpaca farm)

The tone of the article does suggest no serious physical injury (but quite possibly will be either another cyclist put off riding, or become a pavement cyclist - either of which are unfortunate results but quite understandable  )

The article doesn't say a lot, I wonder if this wasn't just a random attack? Car full of lads, girl on bike ... could be she's someone's ex and he's getting at her for whatever reason he feels is justified. (Men will do absolutely crazy things in the name of love ... and rejection).

Not just men...a mate of mine had a fling with a woman who, after they split, in the absence of any bunnies to boil, decided to drive her car at him. (That's the only time I have ever - jokingly - suggested knocking anyone off their bike, when I was in a car that passed her on her bicycle)

From the article we could make all kinds of guesses - suggests to me some "showing off" and random attack but who can really know?

This should be treated as attempted murder, simple. I fear that it won't but that's how I see it.

Hope the cyclist is OK.
