No video to show I'm afriad, but if you were the chap (grey hair bright blue leggins and flourescent jacket) riding along Drayton Gardens

here

this morning, then may I offer some advice.

next time you see a motorcycle stopped at the red lights with its left turn indicator flashing, probably not a good plan to try and jump up their inside as the lights turn green.

If I hadnt thrown a lifesaver and spotted you at the last moment, you'd of have had us both off.

to make it worse, YOU shouted at ME!!......

actually it was more of a yelp, which I kinda took as a shout of surprise as apposed anger...perhaps you did see the indcator at the last moment and yelped in shock or fear.

either way, please, for all our sakes, dont do that again

Rant over

This does make me think - I wonder quite how often car drivers feel all ranty about "bloody undertaking cyclists" when they overtake us, and then end up left hooking us because they overtook too close to their turn and underestimated our speed. That's all general, btw., I'm sure that didn't happen with you.

Absolutely...

but then I also wonder how Ranty they feel when they are sitting there, minding their beanz and a cyclist puts themselves in danger and expects the motorist to evade them.

Its actions like that (along with red lights etc) that "Help" motorists form an unfair onion of cyclists...we have to do everything we can to stop that (as cyclists)

I think observation and courtesy are key to this

As opposed to a fair onion?

I agree though - some people do themselves, and by implication the rest of us, no favours.

I had someone pull out from a side road to my right, and swerve in front of me the other day - both of us on bikes. I shouted 'well, thanks!" as I braked to avoid him, he just muttered something. Now, I know he's not representative of decent cyclists (he was riding a BSO for a start...), but a driver (had he pulled the same stunt with a car) might not...

I ws taught when doing scooter cbts that when waiting to turn left you pulled so close to the curb that you could put your foot on it, the example of the peril they gave was the pizza delivery man

When I learned to drive in the USA at my Dad's I was taught the concept of defensive driving, basically driving in such a way as to anticipate and accomodate the mistakes of other drivers. Although only familiar with Cyclecraft second hand through discussions here and elswhere, it seems to embody similar concepts, and in my own experience I have found it essential to both safe and stress-free(ish) cycling.

I've had that problem when on the bike... you position yourself so that you won't get left hooked by a car only to leave enough space for the gutter hugging cyclist to go through. Like you say a quick look is the only thing you can do.
