http://The man who died following a collision in Sale has been named.

Joe Vernon, 66-years-old and from Sale, was riding his bike on Temple Road, just off Northenden Road, at about 12.10am on Saturday 15 October 2011, when he was in a collision with a Honda Civic.

Joe was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink and causing death by dangerous driving. He has been bailed until 15 November 2011 pending further police inquiries

Very sad news.

That is soooooo sad! Poor man and in particular his family. Tragic waste that could by all accounts have been avoided if said young person had not been drinking alcohol and driving.

RIP

Also, at the risk of seeming pedantic, I very much doubt that the cyclist 'was in collision' with the car: the driver hit him.

Thoughts and prayers with his family.

If it confirmed the river was over the drinking limit his licence should be permanently revoked, after he is released from custody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Entirely agree with the sentiment but that's standard police language, replacing "accident" of years gone by (which made it sound like nobody was to blame).

RIP and condolences to all.
