I dare say I already know your opinions on this one, but thought I'd put it out there anyway!!
Im all for getting out on the bike as much as possible...But If I commuted to work, it'd only take me about 5 minutes to get there!! At little over a mile a way from my house, is there much point? By the time im there, my heartrate wont be much higher than normal and it all in all seems a bit of a palaver! haha

Cue the jokes and insults

You could make the journey a bit longer. Go the wrong way down the road and come back after a bit, or go past work and double back. Keep going further every so often until you're doing a distance you're happy with. It's particularly fun in the nice weather, not so much with snow and ice about.

At least with a mile you can't be driving to work... please tell me you're not driving...

My commute is 1.27 miles. I never walk, it's bike, with a longer run home or very occasionally I take the car.
In mitigation I work split shifts and don't want to waste an extra forty minutes out of my split.

Haha definitely not driving!!

Yeah I could go longer some days, but theres times like this week where I'm on nights and doing at least 12 hour shifts...

I guess I'll just mix it up!!

Well I think you have answered your own question ^_^
Nights and 12 hour shifts short distance, otherwise take the scenic route.

I only live a couple of miles from work but ride an extended commute every work day, managed over 6,000 miles commuting last year.
You have a big advantage as you can get home quickly if needed and you can vary the distance based on the prevailing weather conditions.

Go the wrong way. I live 5 miles from work, did 20 this morning. The beauty is I know that I can be home in 20 minutes if I need to be, if I don't I go further.

Oops just seen BSRU said the same thing

I bike just over a mile to work, it's probably 1.33333333 miles, I like to say it's 1.5 as it sounds better.
It doesn't take me any longer to get ready to cycle than it would to walk, I would put on a hat if I were walking, I put on a helmet to cycle. I put on my waterproofs if it's raining, but I'd have to find a brolly if I walked.
If you think it's more hassle than it's worth you shouldn't cycle.
