I finally got round to swapping the flat bars on my Giant for drops after putting the job off for weeks.
What I didn't realise (until it was too late) is that the 2 gear cables supplied with the shifters were different lengths, a short one for the front mech and a longer one for the rear (although to be honest there was next to nothing in it).
Whenever I've replaced cables in the past I've just bought 'a cable' and cut it to length, never had an issue with length.
Needless to say I set up the front mech first and cut the cable to length, then did the rear only to find the cable was 3 inches too short :cursing:
Does it really save Shimano that much to sell them like this???
Fortunately I managed to find a spare cable in the bottom of my tool box.
Daft mistake that I won't be making again

A few years back I bought those 50p cable sets (brakes/gears/ferrules) linked to in the bargains thread, they were also pre cut to the exact length.
