No sooner finished congratulating myself on getting a Creative MP3 player off fleabay for a bargain price than I stalled halfway through a firmware upgrade - old version deleted, new one won't install without it - only to find that many have been this way before me, and few have emerged with anything but a 20gb paperweight. I haven't given up yet, but goddamn! Hour after hour going round in circles, getting nowhere, so near and yet....

My iPod. Not a fancy one, just one that Mr Summerdays gave me back in 2008. Last week when I attached it to the computer it kept giving a disk error and saying I needed to restore it to factory settings. I didn't do anything all day and waited for Mr Summerdays to come home. It still worked but I couldn't do any changes to playlists etc. so he resored it, wiping it entirely, BUT it wouldn't write to it afterwards.

I went to sleep with a heavy heart, and couldn't get to sleep, also woke in the night and couldn't get to sleep either. Why? Because I normally distract myself when I can't sleep, and what do I distract myself with .... My iPod! I was just going around in circles, even started looking up the price of new and secondhand ones. In the morning Mr Summerdays tried connecting it to the computer not using the USB hub thing I had used, and this time it worked.

I hadn't realised that I treasured it so much.

Me. Wrecked my back playing rugby but thought it was a good idea to continue playing several more games. This was swiftly followed by 3 months off work. But no more rugby led to quite a lot more cycling as recovery. Every cloud and all that.
