Local Cyclists in Telford are asking that as much publicity as possible can be given to the very tragic death of Charity LeJog'er Arthur Platt on the A442 in July this year. Arthur was doing LeJog to raise money for the Charity 'Help for Heroes' see BBC News and also CTC Forum 09 July 2010
The incident was discussed at the Telford BUG this week, local cyclists would never even contemplate using the A442 as it is too dangerous, there are many good alternatives that can be researched from the Telford Cycle Map or by looking at Sustrans Mapping for example the Mercian Way section of National Cycle Route 45 is a good basis for a route through to Whitchurch from the Midlands.

It was indeed a sad and tragic death, but no cyclist in their right mind would cycle on such a road and should have planned a more suitable route of which there are loads. Those that cycle the A30 in Cornwall are equally taking a lot of risk if you ask me.

With respect, the road would not be dangerous at all if only cyclists used it.

It's the folk who use it (most of them in motor vehicles) that make it dangerous. We shouldn't forget that.

Yes, thats pretty obvious that a road is not in itself dangerous
