Does anyone know where I can get hold of some info on the composition of different crude oils - this can be as basic as (totally made-up figures here) North Sea crude has 5% petrol, 10% naphtha, etc , Saudi crude has blah...etc.

I have tried looking on the internet, but the only data I can find relates to amount produced, not what it in the different oils.

(I know a cycling forum may not be the best place for this question, but I thought I'd try anyway! ;))

Thanks - but I'd seen that and it doesn't have the kind of detail I need. It explains 'light' and 'heavy' crude, but I wanted to find out actual proportions of the various fractions in different types of crude.

Here you go as a generalisation, unfortunatly this not on an area by area basis

Every crude well is slightly different to the next, and every field is radically different to the next, light stuff you can almost burn straight to out of the ground in one place to heavy bitumen in another.

I spect you will need to do this on an area by area basis

Fraction Uses

Refinery gas Gaseous fuel (bottled
gas), chemical

4%

Gasoline (petrol) Automobile fuel,
chemical production
32%

Kerosene (paraffin) Heating fuel, jet fuel
12%

Diesel oil Diesel fuel for trucks,
buses, trains, etc.;

17%

Residue fuel Fuel for power
stations, ships, etc.;
can be distilled further
into lubricating oil,
waxes, etc.

35%

Brilliant - thank you.
With the links from Brains and Chromatic I can get the data I need.

Thanks again!
