thinking of getting the genesis equilibrium frameset and building it up with groupset that i've bought for the defy 4...

if it was you, what would you do???

I have the equilibrium 20, and must say its great. Mine is straight from the brochure other than the saddle. what are you building it up with.

I would recommend it any day

full 105 triple, 10 speed, velocity a23's handbuilt onto 105 hubs......

£100 max? 2012 Defy 4 as a whole bike is currently available for £500 whole (2013 is £600 at the mo, you don't say which model you have)

I have one and its nice, but the frameset costs a lot more now than it did a year ago. TBH I think you are better off waiting for the 853 frameset at around £750, which is coming out later this year.

Also try and ride one, just to make sure you like the geometry. Personally I find the headtubes a bit short.

Biggest downside of the equilibrium is no rack eyelets. Cracking bike though.

decided to spend the budget on a full ultegra upgrade for the defy instead

so the defy will have full ultegra triple and handbuilt velocity a23's on ultegra hubs
along with a norco nitro 29er for offroad commuting and fun.

one happy and now skint cyclist......

oo sweet i have a full 105 groupset which i bought at a good price waiting to be used..i also have a brand new ultegra crackset to be used as well new BB....just need a frame now

Is that a big problem though? A serious question not a wind-up as I've never been clear on why that is seen as such a drawback.

Many folk seem to cope OK doing light- and not-so-light-touring and audax-ey stuffusing the single eyelet for both rack and guards

There are no eyelets at the top to attach the rack to the seat stays.
