Today I took part in the annual Inverurie Charity Ride...its a nice wee 25 mile jaunt in the bonnie surroundings of Aberdeenshire. Nothing too taxing but there are a few wee challenging hills on the route...Anyway...I was pootling along quite nicely when at the 10 mile point a chap on a racy looking machine started tailing me and I sensed a wee race developing between us....I speeded up a wee bit to try and shake him off but to to avail he kept with me and passed me on a descent...now it was my turn to chase him which I did until about 3 miles from the finish when I edged in front and pipped him to the finish....I was quite chuffed with this needless to say until he removed his shades and lid to reveal a chap that I would estimate to be at least 70!! my chuffedness was quickly deflated thinking no glory in getting the better of an elder gent...this chap was in great shape and when I was tailing him his legs looked very defined and legs of a younger man....obviously hes been cycling for a lot of years...just shows what cycling can do for the bod I hope I can look like that when i'm that age....he did say to me that he enjoyed our little race but he felt a little tired as he had 70 miles the previous day!....my deflation continues
