Looking at upgrading the Giant PR2's on my 2014 Defy 1. Haven't got an endless budget, but dont want to buy too cheap and feel like hardly an upgrade from stock.

Been looking at the Fulcrum Racing 5's and the Quattro's. Does anyone know how much better either of these will be against my stock Giant wheelset? Does anyone know which are the better of the two? Finally, are there any other suggestions for other wheelset's?

Cheers guys.

Quattros I believe are better than 5's. Fulcrums are a good brand for wheels although parts for them can sometimes be tricky I've read. Although mine have been 100% reliable so far and have not needed anything, mine are 6.5s which came as standard on my Focus Izalco. Mavic also do cheap decent wheels - decathlon had their budget set in for around 130 I think which came with tyres. As for how these sets compare to your existing wheels and would you feel a difference is down to you. Some say its the first upgrade you should make others say unless youre spending a good few hundred pounds then dont bother.

The quattros are deeper profile rims and should perform better at higher speeds. I cant remember the weight difference though but general I would expect a lighter wheel to accelereate and climb better. If money is tight as you suggest on a 2014 bike I'd stick with you current wheelset and get more wear out of it. I doubt Quattros or 5's will give you that much more of a performance benefit over new (the current) stock wheels.

Cheers for the replies. Mixed opinions it seems. A mate has the Quattro's and went on a relatively new Allez. He said they are noticeably better and Strava PR's loads since. Lol.

The Quattro's are slightly heavier than the 5's.

Nearly bought the 5's from PBK, but had an issue on mobile, then discount code ran out! Already 20% off at £191, with a further 20% discount code to take off that. Great price then at £152.80. Can't pay full price now, so will shop around again once I decide on which to grab.

2014 Fulcrum 5s are great. I have them. No problems. Stil true after some nasty potholes. Paid £170 for mine.

Went for the Campagnolo Zonda's for £229 from Amazon in the end. Could not bring myself to pay the full price for the Fulcrum's after losing the 20% off! The Zonda's appear to be a steal, so fingers crossed their are what they are once they arrive from Amazon.

I am also looking to upgrade the stock wheels on my 2014 Defy 1 and am leaning towards the Campagnolo Zonda's. I'm hoping to lighten up the bike a bit.
