The compromise has been that the three largest rear sprockets obviously can't be used with the largest, 44T, front chainring, the other rear sprockets are ok.
Not being able to shift into the big-big combo isn't safe.
You will shift into a forbidden combo by mistake and when you do, you will bend/break the rear derailleur.
I'd either extend to chain so that you can run big-big,
Or adjust the upper limit screw on the front derailleur so you cannot shift to the big chainring.
Not doing either is an accident waiting to happen.

That looks great, Guy. Those images will be a useful resource for others showing an X5 which will be safely rideable a bit out of spec capacity range.
The X5 has a specified capacity of 47t (long cage) and you 'need' 51 (24-34-44 and 11-42). Did you have the adjust the B screw a lot?
As I said moons ago, your RD will tell you quick enough if you inadvertently stray into small/smallish and that'll be a catalyst for shifting to the middle ring.
