Just leaving my friend's house where we've been staying for a couple of weeks while the builders are in, and an old feller stopped me and said "I believe we're neighbours." Slightly taken aback, I muttered something about just for a fortnight or so, and he suddenly launched into an appreciation of my bike. "It's a about a 72 or something isn't it." he said, and it took me a double-take to realise what he was talking about. 72" gear. "It is a 72, as it happens," I said. We chatted about the delights of fixies for a bit, then I set off and he went in next door.
