Shocked me.....I had no idea he was anywhere near that age.

Absolutely.

With limited channels; and a passion for sport in my younger years - this guy was mainstream viewing for me; and many others i suspect.

Indeed.

We did tend to switch between Grandstand (lead presenter Frank Bough in those days) and World of Sport (Dickie Davies) on a Saturday afternoon when I was a kid, but it would be a rare Saturday that we would not watch some of both.

I'm only surprised he was still alive - I would have thought he was more than 30 years older than me, given the game he appeared to be when I was a teenager.

Wikipedia had him down as 89.

Seems that Dickie was a bit "economical with the actualité" about his age.

What I'd dearly like to find now is the Viz feature, "Favourite Sex Positions Of The TV Sports Presenters", the only (as far as I know) edition of which depicted Dickie Davies.
