Why is going viral so important?

First it was bleating goats interrupting a singer now it's an email from Ed Orcutt demonstrating his ignorance of the environmental impact of cycling.

Have you researched the matter. Orcutt doesn't deny that he composed the letter but he admits that he's not researched the subject before making judgements.

You can read about it here.

It's not worth getting into a tizz about it.

The answer to your question is the word you used
Mostly the ignorance of a person in political power to make a difference making ignorance posts which could have a large impact.
He also stands by his opinion that people who bike do not pay for roads when they ride.
“When you are riding your bicycle, tell me what taxes are being generated by the act of riding your bicycle,” he said. “Sales tax does not go into roads.”
Just goes to prove my point.

A clear lack of original thought by "Ed", this sort of nonsense used to appear in newspaper 'Readers Letters' columns long before the internet was invented.

I thought that humans take in a combination of Oxygen and Nitrogen and exhaled CO2. And that trees absorbed CO2 and released Oxygen into the atmosphere. Thats the reason why some people have plants in the house, it improves the standard of air.
So why shouldnt we just have more trees to balance us?

The whole concern of CO2 levels wouldnt exist if we had clamped down on the amount of pollutants that come out of cars and manufacturing plants when levels became a worry.

I'm wary of climbing Mount Stupid on topics like this but the immediate effects of car emissions, ie. the unpleasant atmosphere we could see and smell, and noise pollution were known from the earliest days of motoring. As we've come to understand the underlying and cumulative effects governments have recognised the need to legislate and only then have the necessary technologies developed in response.

Manufacturers are keen to promote how 'green' their cars are when they mean how cheap they are to run because nobody's going to buy a car that requires its own tanker delivery each week. As populations and car ownership increases those cleaner engines are still producing those pollutants and in larger quantities. Governments need to promote cycling to reduce car usage and, in turn, pollution. Orcutt clearly hasn't grasped the importance of that, doesn't understand how roads are funded or why certain taxes exist and can't get his head around the fact that most cyclists own cars, which are taxed and contributing to the economy even when they're parked because the owner's on their bike.

tl;dr Stupid Republican is stupid.

Not necessarily replying to you, Matthew but using that one line as a platform for a ramble to the summit.
