My 60th Birthday present from D1, consisted of 3 envelopes, with instructions to be at Paddington for 6:15 Friday.

Envelope 1: Open me at the station
Envelope 2: Open me on the train
Envelope 3: Open me at Dinner.

1: Tickets to Reading
2: Booking @Malmaison in Reading, room & dinner.
3: A voucher for Cook and Dine Experience @ L'Ortolan, Shinfield nr Reading

So. on Saturday morning Mrs PK and I were Chef's Little Helpers in a 1* Michelin kitchen.
Me in the Larder area, prepping various veg for Garnish
Mrs PK in the Bread and desserts area, prepping all sorts of things.

Then 7 course Lunch with paired wines @Chefs's Table, adjacent the Pass in the kitchen.

Being a total foodies and wine geeks it was the PERFECT present - somebody dragged her up the right way. I blame the Mrs!

Really fascinating experience, far better than the faux theatre on Masterchef - Calm, ordered, efficient, incredibly labour intensive and building in pace and intensity as service approached. Then, utter calm as the brigade had breakfast an hour before service started. Then the kitchen prep areas transformed into linen covered service areas (visible to diners through corridor wall/fish tank). Service itself was a very calm period, despite there being 50 plus covers.

Know a foodie in need of a really special present? - Or maybe just feeling self-indulgent - Book it now!

I'd like all that, but someone else to prep my food :okay:

But happy birthday, and I'm glad you enjoyed the experience.:smile:

Good stuff.

I'm one year behind you.

Just asked Lovely Wife if she is surprising me for my 60th and she said 'you are too *leeding fussy for me to buy you anything - sort something out for yourself'.

That's that then.
