20 inch sounds a large frame to me

I'm 6ft and my mountain bike is an 18 inch frame (with a fair bit of seat post stuck out I'll admit, I think my road bike works out at a 21 inch frame with just enough seat post for a light to be attached to.

is there any way the seat will go down until your feet are nearly flat on the floor? I think confidence may be improved by knowing you can get your feet down

Try contacting your local authority (council) as many of them offer a free or very cheap subsidised lesson with a professional instructor. It's better to learn with someone to help that knows what they are doing rather than get frustrated on your own

Get your grandad to hold on to the back to steady you as you get more used to pedaling and balancing. This is how I learned, however I did fall off the first time I looked back and found that he had let go a few yards behind. After that it got easier.
