How often in a race situation do you need to stop? The brakes used in races are perfectly fine for the required job.
yes they do but we consumers buy the bikes used in racing even though we dare to ride them while not raceing, and some of us have worn out there rims!!! good job i didnt buy mega expensive carbon rims. i know its a little me me me but i just dont care

I've got various bikes with discs, cantis and other rim-pull alternatives and, TBH, I don't think there's a "bad" alternative, depending on the exact make and model. Some types take a few seconds longer to set up and, if I had a straight choice, I'd go for hydraulic discs every time and for every situation on every type of bike but I've no problem with the cantis or callipers.
