On this morning's commute I noticed one of the areas that I had moaned about being dangerous due to the overgrown vegetation on a narrow cycle path (less than standard width), on a bend, had been cleared. I presumed that S.Glos had reacted to complaints (including mine), but just looked on the Evening Post web site and found the following:

South Glos comments:
A spokesperson for South Gloucestershire Council said cycle path verges had been growing "vigorously" this season.

The spokesperson said: "We are aware of this issue and will be attending to this section of verges soon as part of our scheduled annual grass- cutting programme. This has been a particularly vigorous growing season and our maintenance teams have been working hard to keep our paths free and open for everyone."
I'm sure everyone who complained about this area pointed out that it was significantly worse than the average overgrown verge! This was the one where they told me they couldn't cut it due to nesting birds!

So thank you very much to those kind volunteers:bravo:, I had been intending to do a bit myself, but I was going to wait until it wasn't as hot so I wouldn't be in shorts and get stung by the nettles.

I'm sure I recognise at least one from my morning commute, then I could thank them personally!

Nice to hear of some positive action for once.
During my hillwalking days a few of us used to carry secuaters to cut back brambles and I found a "Leatherman" type tool that had them instead of pliers.

Good news! Ever since we exchanged posts on this issue I have been thinking of you when I see an overgrown verge (which is a lot!). I do think the verges are extra-lush this year but they started cutting them a couple of weeks ago in this corner of the world.

I wasn't going to cut the stuff down as I wouldn't have been able to take it away, I was planning on trampling on it to flatten it. Then the other side of the motorway I saw someone getting sung by the nettles as they didn't slow down to pass me and ended up in them!
