The last trip over we had, we were about 3 hours late due to serious jams on the M25, we ended up taking a huge diversion. When we got there, the lady on the booth just booked us in, said we had to wait for a slot which meant we got boarded about 1 AM, but no mention of any extra charge. I'm not sure if that was because everyone was late though because of the jams, but great service.

Whether using ferries or the Tunnel, I always set off with at least a couple of hours to spare allowing for a slow journey, in case of hold-ups. Mind you, this has meant me getting to tunnel/ferry departure point early. In the case of both, where there has been space on an earlier crossing than the one I've had booked, I've been allowed on - at no extra charge.

Fair point - agree on that, the company is very flexible in your depart time - provided it is not peak time I suppose.

The ever sensible WC gives good but obvious advice again.

It's all about planning and punctuality. Something John Cleese couldn't master in Clockwise .

3 hours extra was allowed. We left Brum at 2PM, heard the M1 was shut, cut across the A46 down to the M40. Hit a standstill on the M25, crawled all the way around to the south side of it, getting much worse, came off to try to use the A roads, gridlocked. Backtracked a bit and headed south, can't remember exactly where but we went through Hastings (about the only clear route around). I think we were booked for about 20.30, got there about 23.30, got the tunnel at about 01.00, got to Reims at about 7AM local time, having driven through some of the worst rain ever and stopping for several coffee's and several road side nap's - what is it about that area of northern France, always raining!

Punctuality is good - but sometimes sh!t happens

As you say - if you get there early they will put you on if there is room.

And of course, if you're not up against it timewise, you have a totally clear run. The last time I used the tunnel, we left the Isere valley at midday and I was home in Llangollen at 2 am. We only stopped to change drivers and refuel and there was not the slightest delay anywhere.

Fish and fishes are both acceptable as plural of fish, unless it was meant that there would be only one.

It would appear you haven't studied English Grammar. Fish is both singular and plural. Adding an -es to fishes to indicate more than one is wrong. If you still maintain it is correct, that you did achieve a good standard of written English grammar at school, then, as I have often suspected, standards have indeed reached new depths  ;).

Collins Shorter English dictionary (which I have just consulted) gives fish and fishes as acceptable plurals.
Might I suggest a little more checking, and a little less opinionated rudeness?

Erm, fishes is a legitimate plural of fish. And I used the morphology (not grammar) deliberately because it sounded childish, like looking out of the windows in the Chunnel.

Sorry for letting in more heat than light.
