Does anyone eat the snails from their garden

My garden is currently denuded of large snaily objects. I may put out the empty shells on cocktail sticks to discourage the rest...

For a touch of labour intensive whimsy at an evening garden party, fill shells with olive oil (I suppose veg oil would do), insert a little length of wick in each, and line your path with tiny snail shell oil lamps.... (I've seen a pic of this done with one shell - many might just be too much trouble..)
