Does mine or your car have a catalytic converter? I'm asking as they're being stolen around here

Friend of mine had her Honda cat nicked a couple of weeks ago. Shoved an industrial bin against the door of their salon so they couldn't get out, jacked the car up in front of them and chopped it off.

Earlier Honda cats are apparently worth a small fortune.

Whilst they were in the car?

Barricaded in the salon with the car parked outside. 7pm, broad daylight.

Disgraceful! Why doesn't she have a proper hairdresser car by the way? 🤔

I think it's time Brompton produced a folding car so I could put it under the stairs for safe keeping.

That would be pointless when you look at the rate they are being stolen in London. Even taking them in the office or home is no guarantee they will be safe

It cost me £400 fitted about 10 years ago when my cat on my Nissan was starting to go - management lights every so often (the car is 20 now). The garage were like, oh just clear the light and carry on...

Just replaced a cat on the Aygo and they are about £200 (without fitting) so some cars are using far more expensive materials in them.

You can get aftermarket 'racing cats' for cars - might just keep them legal if you find a friendly MOT garage.....

Much better outside of London thankfully.

Much better in Denmark where I live 😁

I once visited an exhaust manufacturer and the cores in the cat had to be locked in a security cage within stores for insurance purposes.

But that's nothing compared to a company that had a high temperature process that needed a die made out of a block of machined precious metal, platinum or similar. 24/7 process but on shutdowns the insurance company sent in security guards to take that die to put into a vault somewhere.

There's probably lots of companies across the UK with highly valuable and nickable things on site.

As to cats being stolen. It must be where you live. Never heard of it happening to anyone I know.

From Eastern Daily Press Nov 2021

Six incidents of theft were reported to police this week between November 9 to November 11.

  • Two Toyotas and one Honda were targeted on Irving Road, Nasmith Road, and Welsford Road in Norwich
  • One Mazda in Besthorpe Road, Attleborough was targeted
  • One Toyota and one Honda were targeted in Churchill Road, Thetford
IS there something about the cats in Japanese cars?

It may be the accessability of the cat apparently mine is on the front of the engine and relatively difficult to access (nissan almera)
