Does anybody know what a domestic asbestos survey involves? I'm selling my flat and the purchaser has suddenly decided that she wants one done.

Do they take samples from the walls, check the air for fibres, etc? My flat was built in the 1960's so it will definitely contain it.

I think they come in with a detector that monitors the air for fibers and if over a certain level they will examine where it might be - I'm no expert, just know that they have done this in some work buildings. They didn't do anything just put stickers on the boards warning of asbestos!

Basically, there are two types:
Type 1, non intrusive survey
Type 2, intrusive, will take some samples.

You should contact a specialist contractor about which type you need. Your flat will most definitely have some somewhere if it was built in the 60's.

Have a Google about it.

Asbestos is generally not harmful if left alone undamaged. If damaged, that's when the fibres get airborne.
