Hi guys & girls,
On the way home there was a couple of boys (18 years old) kicking a ball across the main road- here we go I thought. Well as i went by one, of the boys run across the road, at me, he stopped about a foot away from me and shouted at me. I swived as I thought he was going to hit me :-( (I don't think he was intending on hitting me, he was just playing up.)

So I lost my rag, I stopped the bike sharply and jumped off - leaving the bike in a heap on the floor, and moved quickly towards the boys (not sure if I run or not), one of the boys shouted "RUN", and the other boy legged it about 50 yards up the road.

I threatened the boy and the other lad started shouting at me so I throw a couple of words and threats back at him also- hence the silly. The boys continued to threaten me, until I jumped back on the bike.

The interesting part, the boy who did not run, started shouting at me - "you shoudn't be f**king threatening a 14 year old, I will phone the police and get you arrested next time". I thought both boys were easily 18, but it was dark.

I am a little concerned that this may escalate when I cycle home from work again later this week. How would you guys have handled this situation, I just seen red - I should know better @ 30 years old.

Just ignore them. If it bothers you then change your route or set off a little earlier.

On a lighter note, I passed a dopey dog this morning and as I cycled past him (very slowly and almost at a stop) he looked up at me and I patted him on the head and said "hello". I didnt see the owners reaction but as I didnt hear any shouting, I suspect it was fine.

Last week a kid of about 8 or something was on the pavement as I approached and lunged at me as I went past with his arms wide going "AAAGGHHHH!" His dad, or the bloke who was with him didn't say or do anything so I rode on, didn't slow down.

The hardest part of cycling is not the physical side it's learning to anticipate/ignore the endless stream of cretins, who seem to think that a person riding a bike is a target both in cars and not.

Fireworks, bottles of water, abuse are just a few of the things I've head hurled my way.

Pretty lame behaviour by the kids though, no excuse being 14 or whatever.....

bah, got hassled by someone at the side of the road when I'd just got back onto the bike.

"pedal faster" she went the cheeky beggar !!!!!

So, a couple of days ago, a young child, maybe year 5, scootered round a corner on a riverside cycle path not looking where he was going. I had to brake quickly and could very easily have hurt him so I said to him quite angrily ''Watch where you're going!'' His mother, engrossed in a conversation with another woman nearby said nothing to him, instead she said to me ''He's only a child.'' To which I replied: ''That's why we have adults.''

Personally, a child of that age should be able to watch where he's going but if he needs some kind of guidance and if the lippy mother's too busy gossiping to keep an eye on him, then I'd do it again.

A couple of days ago I was going down a two-way road but with small paths. One kid had to walk on the road to fit in, but was in the middle for some reason. Not hearing me coming behind I went fully onto the other side of the road to get past, unintentionally but but rather satisfyingly giving him the fright of his life

He was riding, for some retarded reason on my side of the road, and made no effort to move to the correct side despite seeing me. Oh how I wish I'd had a stick to thrust through is front spokes. But sense prevailed, and I let it go.
