The bikes OK!
Me less so. Coming home tonight along a wide shared use path next to a busy dual carriage way. Nice sunny evening so coasting along enjoying the experience. I see a cyclist appear ahead as if from nowhere (large bushy trees and grass verge to left) I slow down to approx 5mph and go to pass him wide right. Turns out he was busy lighting a ciggie and swerves straight into me! Crunch down I go.
"Are you alright mate, should I ring an ambulance?" I tried to answer but had hit the bars on the way down so was winded. Waved hand to indicate give me a minute, when I noticed the blood spurting from just above my right eye. Got my breath back after a couple of minutes while the guy apologies profusely telling me he wasn't concentrating as he has major personal problems. I used the only thing I could find to try and stem the bleeding (new work shirt required) Then onto important matters the bike, bars/forks the wrong way round and chain off. He didn't even come off. I sent him on his way accepting his thousandth apology explaining that it was my error as I was passing him. Fixed the bike and set off for home. Caught up with the lad I'd hit who was pushing his bike. I pulled up and asked if he and his bike were OK. Turns out his girlfriend of 15 years had kicked him out recently and he didn't think he should be riding. I stayed with him for a while and he seemed OK. So got home and checked myself out. Add new bibshorts to shopping list. Two roadrashed knees a badly skinned elbow, chipped tooth and two inch gash above my eye. Had a warm bath with a handful of salt in it, dressed the elbow and cut eye. My ribs then reminded me that they hit the bars on the way down, Ibuprofen check. I'm waiting for a hour just in case I'm hurt more than I think then a bottle of Shiraz will be added to the list of painkillers.
Cyclepaths bah, dangerous places and sorry again mate my bad.

Hope you feel better soon and don't hurt too much tomorrow, poor bloke too... at least he recognised he wasn't in the right frame of mind to cycle. How was it your fault though? Were you too close to him when you overtook?

Blimey- made me wince reading that. Really hope you're OK. If you have hit your head it might be worth getting someone to take you to A&E just to get checked over?

Thanks for the symphathy guys, not sure I actually hit my head, I think I may of head butted my front light, judging by the blood on it. Need new cycling specs too as their fubbered as well (perhaps they caused the cut) I've checked my helmet and no marking at all. The cut is still bleeding slightly so think I'll keep off the wine.
It was my fault as he didn't know I was there, thinking back my finger was hovering over the airzound but I didn't want to scare him and there should have been plenty of room.

Sorry to hear about this. As Lisa said, Wrong place, wrong time. For both of you.
Take the Shiraz, it shouldn't affect the bleeding at all unless you are a hyper drunk!

Try and relax, get a plaster or something across the cut to help it stay closed. The wine will relax you and help you sleep after the event... or that's my medicine and It works for me

Glad you are ultimately ok, sounds like it couldn't have been any worse! Oh, and get that tooth checked out asap!

Already plastered, the cut that is, still bleeding slightly however I think the rest of your medical advice is sound. I off to get plastered.
Cheers all

Ouch man !!!

Hope you recover soon !!

Sounded like a really nasty head-on.

I'm sure that the Shiraz will assist. If not tomorrow try a cheeky Chablis.

Sometimes you have to switch medicines

following will in the last Dun Run taught me that there's no such thing as too wide when passing other cyclists, I pass very wide now, and a call of 'on your right' is always useful

otherwise, hard luck fella
