The bikes OK!
Me less so. Coming home tonight along a wide shared use path next to a busy dual carriage way. Nice sunny evening so coasting along enjoying the experience. I see a cyclist appear ahead as if from nowhere (large bushy trees and grass verge to left) I slow down to approx 5mph and go to pass him wide right. Turns out he was busy lighting a ciggie and swerves straight into me! Crunch down I go.
"Are you alright mate, should I ring an ambulance?" I tried to answer but had hit the bars on the way down so was winded. Waved hand to indicate give me a minute, when I noticed the blood spurting from just above my right eye. Got my breath back after a couple of minutes while the guy apologies profusely telling me he wasn't concentrating as he has major personal problems. I used the only thing I could find to try and stem the bleeding (new work shirt required) Then onto important matters the bike, bars/forks the wrong way round and chain off. He didn't even come off. I sent him on his way accepting his thousandth apology explaining that it was my error as I was passing him. Fixed the bike and set off for home. Caught up with the lad I'd hit who was pushing his bike. I pulled up and asked if he and his bike were OK. Turns out his girlfriend of 15 years had kicked him out recently and he didn't think he should be riding. I stayed with him for a while and he seemed OK. So got home and checked myself out. Add new bibshorts to shopping list. Two roadrashed knees a badly skinned elbow, chipped tooth and two inch gash above my eye. Had a warm bath with a handful of salt in it, dressed the elbow and cut eye. My ribs then reminded me that they hit the bars on the way down, Ibuprofen check. I'm waiting for a hour just in case I'm hurt more than I think then a bottle of Shiraz will be added to the list of painkillers.
Cyclepaths bah, dangerous places and sorry again mate my bad.
