I heard a smidgin of what sounded like a great piece of music on the radio the other day. I looked it up on t'interweb and found that a CD of it (and much more) would set me back £14.

It's not on Youtube so I either take a pricey punt or illegally download it from somewhere. Not that I would know how to do that but it throws up a tricky dilemma.

How much would it cost to legally download a whole cd from i tunes etc?

you can just buy the track you liked from itunes. a typical album is usually around £7.99.

Get it from amazon... similar price to i-tunes, but comes in mp3 format with no rights restrictions

I think that iTunes is no longer DRM, although I cannot attest to it's format (AAC I think) or quality. Emusic is good as well, although they are starting to show the fangs of esurience.

Hmm, I've just checked that the MP3 thingy from Amazon is 69p per track but(excuse my ignorance) how does it get from them to me:blush:

The spotify option is sending me an invite(!) but the waiting list is quite long, apparently.

Yeah, just noticed that. We signed up before they introduced that. Hope you get an 'invite' soon. Maybe if you sign up for a day you'll get an invite faster? Only costs 99p

When you go to buy (checkout, or whatever it's called) the site site will do a one-off download of software to your pc/mac. This then downloads the music nd puts it in a folder, from where you can do what you will with it (burn it onto a cd, copy the files to your phone, memory stick etc etc)

I'm going to have a go - how exciting! I feel I've taken a huge leap into a new age:thumbsup:

even when iTunes was restricted, all you had to do was burn a CD of the stuff you wanted using the built in tool, and then you could rip that CD back into what ever format you liked.
