I'm more disappointed Banshee has been cancelled at the end of series 4.

I've not seen Downton Abbey but it looks like a crèche for the middle age middle-class.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
If banshee has been cancelled, im glad I only watched the first series. As usual these things either go on for years with no conlusions, or they are cancelled, and you end up feeling that there is a large chunk of your life you wasted for nothing.

I have nothing to add about Downton, but since half this thread is about Banshee already...

It's not been cancelled @threebikesmcginty - the writer said the story has been told and you can see it drawing to a natural conclusion (I've just finished season 3).

@welsh dragon - get involved beyond the first series. It reaches colossal new levels of violence and I reckon will end up neatly tying off all the story lines, which as you rightly point out doesn't happen often.

Back to you Downton fans...

I've seen Downton, there has been a lot of death and tragedy in it too, although I imagine it is as cliched as anything, and yes, there are historical and continuity errors, especially when they take the train.

As far as Sunday night easy viewing goes, I've seen a LOT worse (not that I am a great fan of Sunday 'easy viewing').

To all of you who say,

'Oh I have never seen Downtown but it looks awful'

..... And are actually crass enough to then start a thread about how you hate it:

Well, I have never heard of Banshee, but it sounds awful..... Maybe I should start a thread about something I haven't seen too!!

Doesn't the BBC supply free rosy-tinted glasses for Downton Abbey viewers?

The "ruling" classes were the most ambitious, grasping and exploitative members of European society until they finally discredited themselves in the way they conducted the First World War. It's impossible for anybody born after about 1920 to understand how ruthless they really were in their pursuit of money and status. I am about to tackle Thomas Pakenham's book The Scramble for Africa and I expect my dislike of the "ruling" classes to deepen as a consequence, especially when I reach the chapter about King Leopold and the Congo.

There were a few notable exceptions, the rich philanthropists whose names live on and who are worth remembering.

Yes, but you clearly never watched as..... It is on ITV*, so why the BBC would be providing them, I don't know!!

* - Who are just as bad for the rose tinted spectacles when it comes to things, I'll admit.

Never watched it I'm afraid; just the trailers are too sickly.

Trailers are awful things though.

Yes, it will be Cliched, but I am just having a go at people who have actually written a thread complaining about something they have never actually seen.
This forum really has gone downhill of late, even I have noticed standards slipping.

Like I say, maybe I should do the same with Banshee!

With apologies to @Mad Doug Biker for my part in lowering the tone...

I've watched 3 series of Downton and would probably have continued if MrsRM hadn't lost interest.

Not my thing at all, but I vaguely enjoyed it, mostly because it was very well filmed and I ignored/didn't particularly care about the historical bollocks. It wouldn't make my top ten of period dramas - there is a lot more worth watching out there.

I saw the first series but found it hard work. I only kept on with it as my clients insisted that it was the best programme ever. Mind you, if I had watched it carefully instead of playing solitaire as I watched, it might have been better, but I doubt it.

It's ok enough, but yes, I imagine you are right about there being better things out there. Like I say, I was just a bit irked at people who had never seen it complaining and all that.
